MSI develops and manufactures highly complex electro-mechanical sonar assemblies for defense and commercial applications. The Engineering Technician will participate in the production of electromechanical devices including assembly, fabrication, and wiring using established techniques. He/she will operate under the supervision of Engineering and Manufacturing and follow written instructions to perform many of the functions of the job.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Technician to join our transducer development team. The ideal candidate will play an important role in supporting the design, development, and testing of transducers and subassemblies. The Engineering Technician will collaborate closely with Engineers to ensure the successful development of new products.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Builds and tests transducers for internal and external customers using verbal and/or written instructions.
Assembles and tests electrical components, prototypes, and systems.
Works with Engineering to develop process documentation test plans, wiring diagrams etc.
Works with Engineering to develop electrical and mechanical test fixtures including in-water test housings and wiring harnesses.
Uses epoxies, adhesives, cleaning solvents and other chemicals as needed.
Uses variety of hand tools to fabricate parts for use in new and existing transducer designs.
Collaborates with Engineers to develop, refine and improve processes and products.
Collaborates with Engineers to develop and execute rework or repair plans for products as needed.
Tabulates and records data for Engineering review.
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and helps trouble shoot non-functional equipment.
Observes all safety regulations including personal protective equipment applicable to the use of electrical tooling and equipment and applicable to the use of chemicals.
USEFUL SKILLS:
Mix, dispense and apply adhesives, epoxies and potting materials.
Use of mechanical measurement instruments including calipers and micrometers.
Basic soldering skills.
Basic knowledge of plumbing and air flow apparatuses.
Proven experience with mechanical assembly, basic machining, and electrical wiring.
Must be able to read and understand performance specifications, technical manuals, schematics and written/verbal instructions.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team.
High attention to detail and accuracy in work.
Standard computer skills including operation of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent. An associates degree in Engineering, Electronics or Physics is a plus.
